Foundation Level

With almost 8,000 students from Mainland China in Independent schools in the UK (ISC census statistics, 2017) and Chinese pupils making up the largest single group of international students attending British boarding schools, it is clear that Chinese students are entering education in the UK from a young age. This of course offers them the best preparation for future higher education studies in the UK, and means that by the time they graduate from high school and begin to apply for university courses, they already have a feel for the UK education system and culture, and their English language skills will no doubt benefit from immersion in an English speaking environment from an early age. However, there is no doubt that applying for and receiving a place at a UK school, as well as adjusting to life in the UK, can be challenging for young students. This is why at UKPathway we understand the importance of a comprehensive and integrated service for Chinese students relocating to the UK, ensuring that they begin their educational journey in the best possible way, and that their UK life and education runs smoothly from the offset. We offer a well-rounded and service, based locally within the UK, to pupils and their parents including advice on which schools to apply to, guidance about exams and entry requirements, English courses, pre-degree foundation courses and more, with an aim of improving the overall integration, wellbeing and success of Chinese pupils studying in the UK.

Of course, it is not only the pupils who benefit from our services - schools are also matched with exceptional pupils from China who have not only talent but real enthusiasm, and excellent potential to contribute to their educational environment and become successful and valued members of their cohort. This means that as well as the substantial school fees revenue which is provided by the parents of Chinese high school students in the UK, schools also benefit by receiving pupils who are well-suited and prepared for study in the UK. Moreover, our services make sure that each stage of a student’s education from school selection and applications to final exams runs smoothly, ensuring good results not only for the pupils but also the schools, and our services help to share the responsibility of taking care of students between us, their parents, and the schools, to offer the students the best possible support network to allow them to succeed.

After GCSE level, we provide guidance and support to students on the next steps of applying to university foundation courses and maintain excellent links to a range of universities and colleges who are exceptional providers of education for our Chinese students, creating a strong and mutually beneficial link between institutions and students to allow for an enjoyable and successful journey through education and beyond.

Degree Level

The Chinese student population in the UK makes up by far the largest percentage of non-EU international students at British universities, with over 90,000 Chinese students (HESA figures, 2017) and a steady year on year rise in numbers, projected to continue into 2018-2019. The UK is an attractive place to study for Chinese students, but competition is high, and there are a huge number of institutions and courses to choose from, as well as differences in entry requirements, and application procedures to consider, as well as other practical issues such as accommodation, VISA requirements and integration into student life and culture in the UK. UKPathway’s education department offers guidance for students and prospective students on everything from which university and course is most suitable for their skills and interests, advice on personal statements, support during the application process, as well as providing a local, UK-based presence with staff on hand to offer help to students throughout their university career.

We also maintain partnerships with a large and growing base of excellent UK universities to ensure that our many highly motivated and talented clients are able to find the perfect university place where they will thrive, and become a part of the rich and dynamic community of international students in the UK who continually help to shape the education system in Britain, and who make up such a strong and positive presence in British universities. The support, advice and guidance which we offer to Chinese students in turn allows them to better integrate within the UK, better understand the requirements for applying to UK universities and be the very best candidates for spaces at the many fine educational institutions of Great Britain. This can only be advantageous, for both the students and the academic institutions, with students being able to comfortably find places on university programmes and settle into life in the UK, and education providers finding the very best prepared, most suitable, and well-informed students who will quickly become assets to their course and university.

PhD Level

Naturally, with such a high population of Chinese students studying at BA and MA level in the UK, many talented students wish to progress further and take up PhD research at UK universities. Although these students are already to a certain extent well versed in their field and adapted to life in the UK, we nonetheless offer tailored support for Chinese graduates embarking upon doctoral research. We not only help students to discover institutions and programmes which are the perfect match for their research interests but also offer guidance on VISAs, advanced language requirements, and other practical issues which the students may face, as well as advice on CV and research proposal preparation and interview techniques. Chinese postgraduate students have much to offer their institutions and indeed the entire research climate with their passion for learning, specialised knowledge and drive to become pioneering experts in their field, and it is our goal at UKPathway to facilitate in every way the academic journeys of our clients, as well as offering UK institutions truly exceptional overseas students who will leave a lasting impact on their university and embark upon ground-breaking research across a range of subjects and interests.

By offering such a thorough gamut of services, and by nurturing links between UK education providers and Chinese students, we not only facilitate students’ journeys through the UK education system, but also help our partner institutions to take on the valuable candidates which make up such a large and important part of UK university demographics. From pre-GCSE age students right up to the postgraduate and doctoral level, and even beyond this with our career guidance services, UKPathway provides education consultancy with a view to enhancing the entire educational system of the UK, making the already established relationship between Chinese students and UK universities not only more attractive and accessible for our clients, who make up a significant share of the tuition fee income to UK education providers, but also more beneficial and streamlined for the UK institutions who are offering tens of thousands of Chinese students unrivalled education and personal development each year.
