雅思口语写作中那些受宠的小词们~

  在雅思学习中,若问到大家的感受,听到最多的就是语法和词汇的问题;大多数学生都认为只要词汇用的高级、有难度,就一定能够得到很高的分数。其实,这只是一个误区。在很多高分甚至是满分的作文中,我们都会发现整篇文章都没有一个生词,所以,问题的关键应该是在于如何灵活地运用这些我们非常熟悉的小词,如何让它们发挥大作用。在下文中,大道教育将给大家列举一些在雅思写作和口语中可以用得很精彩的小词以及它们的具体运用。

  写作篇:

  1. 社会生活类

  Skip: Thepoor tend to smoke more and skip breakfast, two factors which havemajor stress effects on the body.

  Betterof: People of the lower end of thesocial economic status have stress levels in their bodies that worth 3 timeshigher than those who are better off.

  Reputation: Contraryto fears about the violent reputation of some games, there isno firm proof that playing them has a negative impact on children's behavior.

  Contribution: Videogames have a positive contribution for education.

  Tough: Thefindings are likely to surprise supporters of tougher regulation ofcomputer games.

  Midlifereview: People need opportunities to makea "midlife review" to adjust to the later stages of employedlife, and to plan for the transition to retirement.

  Update: Otherscan do voluntary work more effectively if they can update theirskills and knowledge.

  2. 科技、媒体类

  Access:Innovative technology has transformed how we access and share information,changed the way businesses and institutions operate, and made the world smallerby giving us instant access to people and resourceseverywhere.

  Farewell: Farewell tothe out-of-date guidebook and the grubby newspaper.

  -like: A paper-like devicethat can store hundreds of novels, update the news while you browse theheadlines.

  Screen: Youngpeople today enjoy more and more digital connections, more screen time thanever before.

  Comea long way: Trains have come a long way fromtheir grim beginnings.

  Driving: Newtechnological products will be the driving force to make workand life easier and entertaining.

  3. 教育类

  Struggle: It’seven a struggle to keep up with the minimum requirement of twohours sport a week.

  Fare: Graduates fared betterwhen they came to filling out job applications and reading newspapers.

  Advance: Thesurvey shows that more women and minorities are looking to advance theircareers with an advanced degree.

  Pickup: More people are willing to attendschool during a slowdown and hope things will pick up aftergraduation.

  Pretend: Aschildren play pretend, they try to explore the relationship betweenfamily members, friends, and learn more about how people interact.

  Sharpen: Universitiesshould not only be a place where students learn academic knowledge, but providecourses to sharpen their competitiveness.

  口语篇:

  1. Stuff 在口语中相当于things,但无复数形式。

  The stuff in that store is very pricey.

  2. Folks 相当于people

  Average folks can’t possibly afford cars like that.

  3. Pretty相当于副词very

  My new IPod is pretty fun.

  4. Fun=interesting

  There’re lots of fun things to do in the classroom.

  5. Adore表示“非常喜欢”

  I adore that singer.

  6. Shortly相当于soon

  I’ll get these things done shortly.

  7. Spot意为“看见”时,相当于see;意为“地方”时,相当于place

  I spotted some squirrels and woodpeckers in Stanley Park.It's a nice spot.

  8. Eye-opening表示“让人大开眼界的”

  Trips to other countries can be really eye-opening.

  9. Decent相当于“quite good”

  This job offers a decent salary and an impressive set of benefits.

  10. Hang out表示“玩儿”,需注意其后不能直接跟宾语

  I often hang out in bars at weekends.

  I often hang out with them at the park.

  11. Kind of/sort of表示“有点”,相当于somewhat

  This movie was kind of interesting.

  12. Like…在口语极度常用,表示“比如说”,“像是……”,“差不多是”I brought lots of stuff, like carrots, beef and salmon.

  13. In a row相当于one another,表示“连续地出现或者发生”

  Jim passed four exams in a row last week.

  14. Entire相当于whole,complete;其副词entirely也很常用

  Daniel ate the entire cake and made no apology for that.

  Jessica is not entirely sure if she can get a nice job after graduation.

  15. As well相当于too

  Beijing is exciting for its nightlife. And it’s culturally attractive as well.

  16. …is a piece of cake =…is asnap =…is a breeze. 表示“小菜一碟”,第一个较为常用,后两个在国内比较少见,在英美生活中却时常能听到,可以加分哦~

  The IELTS speaking test is a breeze if you know all the tricks about it.

  17. During 表示“在……的时候”,属于雅思口语极度常用的小词。

  We go hiking and camping during holidays.

  18. Know…inside out = know…backwards and forwards 表示“精通”

  He knows computers backwards and forwards.

  19. I’m all for… 意为“我完全支持某事物” (=I strongly support…),注意这个句型在英美口语中很常用,但是写作里不要用。

  I’ve got nothing against change – I’m all for it.

  20. …is no picnic = …is a pain in the neck 意为“很折磨人”

  Getting the housework done every day is no picnic.

  21. …really bothers me. / …is getting on my nerves. 意为“让我很烦”

  The noise really bothers me. / The noise is getting on my nerves.

  22. Kick back and relax = let one’s hair down 表示“放松”

  At parties, we just kick back and relax.

  23. A couple of 表示“几个”

  I stayed in France for a couple of weeks.

  24. A bunch of 相当于some,表示“一些”

  I went there with a bunch of new friends.

  25. Load of =piles of =tons of =a multitude of 表示“很多”

  I’ve got loads of work to get through before tomorrow.

  26. Make sense =be reasonable 意为“合理的”

  The plot of that movie didn’t make any sense.

  27. …, you name it. = and the list goes on and on 表示“……应有尽有”,常被放在列举出的几个名词之后表示其实还有更多。

  Beijing has traditions, modern lifestyles, tasty food, exciting night-life,beautiful people…you name it.

  28. By doing that, I kill two birds with one stone. 意为“一举两得”

  When I travel around, I take photos and then sell them online. So you see, Ijust kill two birds with one stone.

  29. …is the best +名词,hands down. 表示“……绝对是最……的”

  The new iPad is the best tablet I’ve ever seen, hands down.

  30. …would be the last thing I want to do. 表示“……是我在人生里最不想做的事”

  Doing the dishes would be the last thing I want to do.

  31. That’s the way the ball bounces. 表示“命中注定就是这样了”。一般说这句话的时候,都伴随着耸肩(shrug the shoulders)的动作。

  Lots of people got fired. Too bad. But that’s the way the ball bounces in arecession.

  32. Get the hang of…表示“基本了解了怎样做某事”

  “I’ve never used a word processor before.” “ Don’t worry. You’ll get the hangof it shortly.”

  33. Get…down pat 表示“完全了解了……”

  If you just memorize all the answers, even if you get all the answers down pat,there may still be questions you haven’t thought of during the test. So,….

  34. …is nonexistent. 这个表达完全等同于中文里所说的“压根儿就不存在”

  Some scientists believe global warming is nonexitent. Some of them even arguethat the earth is actully getting colder.

  35. Suit someone well / suit someone’s needs. 国内考生普遍都酷爱使用suitable那个词,但事实上suitable的语气比较正式,在英美口语对话里并不常听到,反倒是suit someone well / suit someone’s needs这两种说法的使用频率更高。

  The bustling city life suits Jeremy better.

  类似上面这样的小词,在作文和口语中的使用是非常频繁的,换句话说,构成一篇文章,在词汇的运用上,主要还是靠这些小词起大作用。小词汇,往往给人以更加自然、流畅的感觉,不会因为某个高级词的错误使用反而让这句话变得很突兀。所以,大道教育建议要准备雅思考试的同学应该要转变一下传统的单词积累方式,不要一味地从字典A开始背诵到Z, 因为大部分单词都很少会出现在写作中。同国内考试不同,雅思和托福的写作并不是希望看到多么华丽的词汇,而是一篇语言表达自然、流畅的文章。

  获取小词的渠道

  那么,在哪里可以获取精彩的小词呢?

  1.普通的在线版国外报纸

  报纸是最常见的地道小词来源体,特别是报纸中Comment一栏中,更是有大量丰富的小词。

  2.国外官网媒体的Blog

  同国内主流媒体一样,blog也早成为一种信息、观点的发布平台。

  3.国内较好的英语学习网站

  这类网站中如putclub.com及时更新信息,在所发布的音频文件中,都可以找到对于我们写作非常有帮助的素材。

  当然,最简单的方法就是同学们在学习中逐步积累起自己的小词词库!
